At The University of New Mexico, we’re committed to creating a sustainable campus environment that enhances the quality of life for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This Earth Month, join us in making a difference by participating in our campus activities throughout April.
Why Participate?
Earth Month is a time to celebrate our planet and take meaningful action to protect it. By joining our events, you’ll help:
- Beautify Our Campus: Enhance the natural landscape and create a cleaner, more welcoming environment.
- Promote Sustainability: Support UNM’s sustainability initiatives and inspire others to take eco-friendly actions.

Upcoming Events
April 1, UNM Campus Tree Celebration
Location: Flagpoles south of Scholes Hall
Time: 12:30 P.M. – 1:30 P.M.
Join us to kick off Earth Month and celebrate UNM becoming an Arbor Day Higher Education Tree Campus. There will be remarks, a seed exchange, and tree tours.
April 1, Compost Workshop — Lobo Gardens
Location: Lobo Gardens
Time: 2 P.M. – 3:15 P.M.
Eva Stricker, NM Research Assistant Professor, will present a home composting workshop.
April 2, Film Screening: "Taking Root — The Vision of Wangari Maathai"
Location: Student Union Building, Acoma A & B
Time: 4 P.M. – 6 P.M.
A free screening of "Taking Root: The Vision of Wangari Maathai" the story of Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Wangari Maathai whose simple act of planting trees grew into a nationwide movement. Co-hosted by the Office of Sustainability, ASUNM, GPSA, and UNM LEAF.
April 7, UNM Sustainability Strategic Plan Public Input Meeting
Location: Central Campus, Student Union Building, Lobo A & B
Time: 11:30 A.M. - 12:30 P.M.
Provide critical input into UNM’s Sustainability Strategic Plan. All campus community members are welcome.
April 9, UNM Sustainability Strategic Plan Public Input Meeting
Location: North Campus, Domenici Center, Room 3710
Time: 4 P.M. – 5 P.M.

April 10, Soil Workshop — Lobo Gardens
Location: Lobo Gardens
Time: 2 P.M. – 3:15 P.M.
Join Lobo Gardens for a soil workshop with Steffany Olivas, CABQ Local Agriculture Community Coordinator.
April 22, Earth Day, Campus Cleanup — North Campus
Location: Check-in at the North Campus Shade Structure
