Reducing Food Waste and Addressing Food Insecurity

UNM Food works to reduce food waste, address food insecurity, and divert compostable waste from landfills.  In addition, they work with campus partners to manage the Lobo Eats App that helps distribute leftover food from UNM events.

Reduce Landfill Waste

UNM Food offers a sustainable and customizable way to take your favorite foods to-go from La Posada Dining Hall with the ReusePass Program. ReusePass lets meal plan holders check out and return reusable to-go containers, reducing resource consumption and diverting single-use containers from landfills.

In addition, UNM Food also contracts with Little Green Bucket to provide compost hauling services for UNM at the La Posada Dining Hall and from UNM Catering at the Student Union Building. Over 70,000 pounds of food waste from UNM are hauled each year and composted.
