Reducing Food Waste and Addressing Food Insecurity

UNM Food recovers unsold items from retailers and donates them to the Lobo Food Pantry. In addition, they work with campus partners to manage the Lobo Eats App that helps distribute leftover food from UNM events.

Reduce Landfill Waste

UNM Food, through its contractor Aramark, offers reusable to-go containers to cut down on single-use plastic waste.

In addition, UNM Food also contracts with Little Green Bucket to provide compost hauling services for UNM at the La Posada Dining Hall and from UNM Catering at the Student Union Building. Over 70,000 pounds of food waste from UNM are hauled each year and composted at the Soilutions compost facility, located in Albuquerque’s South Valley.
